Common Resume Questions for Jobs in Egypt

Question 1: How many pages should my resume be?

Answer: This is a very common question but easy to answer - Your skills and working experience can easily be conveyed in a resume between 1 - 3 pages, preferably 2 pages.

Question 2: How can I clearly convey my skills for the position I want?

Answer: It is important to always apply for a position that is going to challenge you, this way you will continue to grow as an individual and in your professional career. It is also important to remember that it is your responsibility to ensure you get the position you want and not that of the employer and your resume is only one piece of the puzzle to succeed in getting this position. Therefore your resume should display good transferable skills that an employer can use effectively. It may be a good idea to include an objective statement as this can convey this kind of message to the employer.

Customise your career summary and core competencies for every position you apply for - the best way to do this is to prepare a single document that will convey all your core competencies in a single document then use this document to select the correct competencies for the job you want. Core competencies are areas where you excel, and are easily transferable to your new position

Question 3: Which email should I use in my Resume?

Answer: Some of you may find this question a little strange but once you have read this answer you will agree that it is necessary to address this question. We use our emails frequently these days and we never give any thought when sending our email and it is the same when applying for a position. If you have an email address that reads like sexkitten(at)gmail.com, notworking(at)gmail.com or ihatework(at)hotmail.com then please consider changing this if you are serious about getting the job you want.

Also if you are currently employed it may not be a good idea to send your job application from your work email as many companies monitor email activities for irregularities and it can become embarrassing for you if your boss suddenly gets his hands on your application for a new job.

Sending your email from an account that is frequently monitored is also a good idea this way you will not miss any emails from the potential employer regarding your application.

Question 4: How can I fit my entire work history into my resume?

Answer: The reality is that you cannot fit your entire working experience in 1 - 3 pages but you also don't want to! What I mean by this is that employers can only work with your working experience in the past 12 - 15 years, so focus on this time period but be prepared in your interview to discuss any experiences prior to this time period. The only thing that employers and recruiter can work with is your most recent experience and skills acquired during this time.

Question 5: Does my resume need an Objective?

Answer: This question is really up to you, as discussed in an earlier question above, adding an objective has its merits but it is not essential.

Question 6: Should I have more than 1 resume to reflect the different fields?

Answer:  It is very difficult to have one resume that will be suitable for all jobs for which you will apply. We recommend that you have a general resume that you can customize for different jobs. The more you can customize your resume, the better. Recruiters will appreciate your narrowing the focus of your resume.
